Bushwalkers’ Memorial to Alan Notley
6 October 2019
One of our former fellow walkers and Naturalists Club member, Katsu Young, made a generous bequest to our bushwalking group while she was gravely ill, dying just over a year ago. The idea to create a memorial to Alan Notley, who founded our bushwalking group more than forty years ago, was put to Katsu at the hospice when Johanna, Nel and Lutz visited her.
An appropriate location is Old Nursery Park in Yanchep. That was a native-plant nursery associated with the development of Yanchep by Bond Corporation, bought by Tokyu, a Japanese company. Alan established and managed this nursery from the outset until he retired.
After protracted meetings with Wanneroo City a memorial bench has been installed to meet city requirements, with a small plaque commemorating Alan.
An inauguration of that memorial on Sunday 6th of October invites you to meet in Yanchep National Park for lunch in Yanchep Inn, ride-share to the Old Nursery Park for a brief memorial function before returning to YNP and perhaps a lakeside walk or afternoon tea in the café. Costs will be met from the bequest.
Please let us know whether you can join us by emailing Lutz (see organiser box) then we’ll send you final details.
