A fascinating journey through the flora, fauna and history of Jorgensen Park (and DRB AGM)

Jorgensen Park Pavilion…, Jorgensen Park Pavilion, end of Crescent Rd, Off Mundaring Weir Road,
Kalamunda, WA 6076 Australia
+ Google Map

Join us for a fascinating journey though the flora, fauna and history of Jorgensen Park by Joy McGilvray, co-ordinator Friends of Jorgensen Park and DRB member. Jorgensen Park became home of the DRB this year and Joy took us on an excursion in April to see all the active revegetation areas they have planted. We also did a brief plant and bird survey and saw much flora and fauna of interest. She also had fascinating charts of the vegetation levels in years gone by in comparison to now and the impact that housing has had on the park. Our DRB AGM will also be included but our Chair has promised not to be boring! Of course, there will be the same lovely refreshments afterwards and the opportunity to win two door prizes. See you on the 10th November in Kalamunda.

Our inaugural "Celebration of our DRB legends" talk will be given by Kevn Griffiths. He co-founded the DRB in 1974, is the author of "A Field Guide to the Larger Fungi of the Darling Scarp & South West of Western Australia", and our fungi leader. He is still on the committee of the DRB too as the Vice Chair. He will celebrate his 90th birthday in December. He will explain how his life as a naturalist started and the journey he has taken since including his interest in researching the fish, Gambusia affinis; and how he became interested in fungi. Warning: if you've been a long-standing member of the club don't be surprised to see yourself looking much younger in some of his early photos. He still has photos from 1974! He will be bringing his albums for people to look through on the night. It is also the DRB's AGM that night and our Chair will explain the progress the DRB has made in 2018, when we have broken all records for new memberships, total number of memberships, the numbers of people at an excursion and at an evening talk. Even our flora lists have reached impressive new highs. She will also explain the strategies we are putting in place to preserve the expertise of our DRB elders for current and future generations. Please join us and help us acknowledge and celebrate one of our leading DRB elders.
