CLUB Annual General Meeting 2020

7 February, 7:30 pm-9:30 pm

In changing the way we hold the AGM for the Club, it has been decided that the February 2020 AGM will be a ‘Club Members Only’ event, without a keynote speaker.

This year club members are encouraged to bring a natural history item—be it a physical item, a photo (or two), or a highlight of an activity in one form or another of the past year. It will be a ‘Members’ Show and Tell’ event, where at the end we will vote by general consent on the best ‘item/activity’, for which we will have a gift.

We do need representations from the whole of the Club with a minimum quorum of 50 people to be able to hold the AGM and choose the new Council for 2020. This requirement has not changed from previous AGMs. What will change is that the next Club AGM in 2021 will be hosted by one of our branches. A vote or nomination of this hosting branch will happen at tonight’s AGM.

We also need you tonight at this AGM to carry a motion to make a minor change to Sections 9.1 and 9.2 of our Constitution.
As we have successfully trialled online membership subscriptions, the membership renewal date now aligns with the first membership payment received, on application of membership to the club.

Section 9.1 ‘Annual subscriptions become due and payable on 1st January each year’ is proposed to be changed to:

‘Annual subscriptions become due and payable on the date when membership application payment has been received.’

Section 9.2 ‘Any other member who has not paid his or her subscription by 30th April shall be deemed to be unfinancial and shall not be entitled to receive any of the benefits of membership’ is proposed to be changed to:

‘Any other member who has not paid his or her subscription within 2 months after the renewal due date shall be deemed to be unfinancial and shall not be entitled to receive any of the benefits of membership.’

Six of our current Council members have elected not to return to Council, due to other commitments. I encourage any members to step forward to fill one of the following positions:

  • President
  • Vice-president (2)
  • Secretary
  • Treasurer
  • General Meeting Manager
  • Membership Manager
  • Young Naturalists’ Coordinator
  • 4 General Councillors.

According to Section 12.1 of the Club’s Constitution, we should have a minimum of 13 people on Council and we are currently running the Club with 9 active councillors, due to various reasons. If you are a financial club member and enjoy the activities carried out by the club, why not donate some of your time and help us to actively keep our club great? We cannot function properly without your active support. Nominations for Council closed 9 January, prior to this meeting,  but casual vacancies on Council can be filled in accordance with the constitution after voting at AGM has closed and ratified and a general meeting. So  any tasks you think you could do should be sent to the office anytime.
If you require any information on the vacant positions, please contact me, or the office, during office hours.
