Rocking around Australia: The shapes and shaping of Australia, from its early beginnings in WA
17 July, 7:30 pm
Our Speaker tonight, Peter Alcock, geologist will help us take a look at geological evidence around Australia demonstrating significant events during the evolution of the continent.
Peter studied Geology at UWA during the sixties and spent the next seven years exploring for mainly base metals and coal in Eastern and Northern Australia. After travelling with a young family for 18 months through Japan, Europe and North America, he settled into a farming life but eventually returned to exploration geology, where he was a director of several small companies exploring for gold, tantalum and lithium in WA. For many years Peter has been fascinated by the influence of natural earth processes over long periods of time on landscapes, human history and behaviour.
This talk (with some musical interludes) is a journey through time as told by Australian rocks, while ‘rocking around Australia’.
