KRM Branch August Meeting Report
At our August meeting Colin Prickett presented a selection of photographs he had taken over the past few months. The presentation commenced with the KRMB visit to Dryandra Woodland in May this year and included photographs of marsupials at the Barna Mia sanctuary, bird life and invertebrates.
Next were photographs taken during a holiday in Fiji which included photos of the migratory shorebird, the Wandering Tattler, in breeding plumage shortly before they departed to their breeding grounds in the northern hemisphere. He then showed photos taken during a short camping trip to a gnamma hole north of Wubin. These included shots of a Rufous Treecreeper collecting nesting material (below, left), two male Red-capped Robins facing off over a female (below), Chameleon Spider Orchids(above right), Clown Orchids, Twining Drosera in flower and several spiders. Colin then showed photographs of birds from the Rockingham and Mandurah areas, including several of Black-shouldered Kites at Lark Hill, where a large number gathered when there was an abundance of mice available: 12 were seen in a small area one afternoon!
The wet winter this year has been ideal for fungi in local reserves and Colin showed a selection of images of the species found during his many walks. The presentation finished with a series of images of some impressive spiders including Golden Orb-weaver, Banded Garden Orb-weaver (Argiope trifasciata), Garden Orb-weaver (Eriophora transmarina) and finally a male Red-headed Mouse Spider (Missulena occatoria).
