The Perth Hills have a unique suite of fish species that inhabit the streams and rivers that feed into the Swan-Canning Estuary. Many of the species are small and cryptic in nature, resulting in them being virtually unknown to Perth residents. From the elusive freshwater cobbler to the common pygmy perch, they all fulfil important ecological roles in our river systems, yet are typically undervalued. In this presentation, you will be introduced to some of the cryptic and vulnerable species of native fish and other aquatic fauna in the waterways of the Perth Hills and be given an overview of some of the key threats to their survival and what actions are being taken to protect our native aquatic critters. Our guest speaker: Suzanne Thompson, is an aquatic scientist in the Rivers and Estuaries Branch, Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions, and a lively, dynamic speaker. She is also the co-ordinator of Wedgetail Reserve which we are visiting on our August excursion. Come join us for a fascinating evening.
