Fungi, Flora, Insects and Birds of Wedgetail Reserve in Parkerville – with the DRB Nats

25 August, 9:45 am-12:30 pm
Wedgetail Reserve, Parkerville, Lake Valley Tce and Bookleaf Place
Parkerville, WA Australia
+ Google Map

The DRB Nats has been invited by the local landcare group co-ordinator to run a survey at Wedgetail Reserve in Parkerville. The reserve started as a barren clay wallow (cattle property for 40 years) and was formed as POS in a subdivision in the early 2000s. The only vegetation remaining was a fringing strip of struggling marri and casuarina. First planting of local canopy species took place in 2005 and 13 years and 42,000 plants later the area has been transformed. It has been a joint effort by community (Friends Group), students from CLM classes at Midland, School students from both primary and secondary schools, Prisons Dept, Water & Rivers, ALCOA, EMRC, Shire of Mundaring and the developer. In winter and spring the little creek fills, comp basins fill, local plants flower everywhere and birds and animals flow to enjoy the bounty. Now we need to know what is there! It will be run along the lines of the Glen Forest Superblock excursion last year where we divided into 4 groups. This year we will have a bird, an insect, a flora and a fungi group. Come join us.

Join us for this exciting natural history weekend with the DRB Nats in Kulin. It is spring time - when the flowers will be at their best, and even the Eucalyptus Macrocarpas will be coming out. We came to Kulin in June 2018 and saw so much of interest, and had such a good time, that members have been adamant we must return in spring!
