Rica Erickson was an Australian naturalist, member of our Club, a botanical artist, historian, author and teacher. As a schoolteacher living north of Toodyay, she spent her time studying the wonders of the bush. The Rica Erickson Nature Reserve, located north-east of Bindoon, about 100 kilometres from Perth, is named in her honor as she was instrumental in conserving this bushland in the 1960. It is appropriate that for our Centenary, we follow in Rica’s footsteps and visit this reserve for an excursion. Early spring is the best time to see the wildflowers in this reserve.
Meet: 9.15 am at the public toilets on Gray Road in Bindoon, just past the Bindoon Bakehouse & Cafe. From there we can carpool to Rica Erickson Reserve, or you can follow us from there to Old Plains Road car parking area, off Calingiri Road.
Bring: suitable clothing and shoes for bushwalking, food and drinks, camera, binoculars, chair to sit on if needed, etc.
