Many key events in the evolution of our planet and life on it are writ large in Western Australia and have been revealed thanks to work right here. These span from when liquid water first formed, via the demise of the dinosaurs to the present day as an internationally recognised biodiversity hotspot.  Lyn will share some of her favourite stories and celebrate local and global heroes.

After graduating from Oxford and Edinburgh Universities, Professor Lyn Beazley AO FAA FTSE moved to Western Australia and built an internationally renowned research team focused on recovery from brain damage as well as studying the colour vision of Australian monotremes and marsupials. As Chief Scientist of Western Australia from 2006 to 2013, Lyn advised the Western Australian Government on science, innovation and technology. In 2009, Lyn was awarded Officer of the Order of Australia and is a Fellow of both the Australian Academies of Science and of Technological Sciences and Engineering. Lyn was amazed and delighted to be named the WA Australian of the Year for 2015. Currently Lyn is Chair of the Advisory Committee for the Conversation of Flatback Turtles on WA’s Northwest Shelf and is especially proud to be a Co-Patron of the WA Naturalists Club.

The Serventy Memorial Fund is a memorial to the contribution by the Serventy family to the Western Australian Naturalists’ Club, with the aim of assisting and encouraging young people in the study of natural history. The Serventy Memorial Lecture is the main source of funding for the Serventy Memorial Prizes for students awarded annually at the four WA public universities.
