Lake Gnangara is the most southerly of the Wanneroo wetlands. The surrounding terrain consists of low dunes and undulating sand plains. Over the last few decades, extraction of water from the Gnangara Mound has resulted in a significant reduction of the areal extent of the lake.
Our walk will take us along the eastern side where we will walk through Banksia Woodland and return beside Fringing Melaleuca Wetlands. Hopefully we will find orchids in flower and with the recent rain there is water in the lake and waterfowl.
Approx 3km return.
If time permits we will visit nearby Tuscan Park, a little hidden gem as the riparian vegetation is quite dense. Rainbow Bee Eaters nest there in summer and some amazing orchids can be found over spring.
Meet: Lake Gnangara Car Park at the northern end of Alexander Drive, 400m from turn off at Gnangara Road.
Bring: Comfortable footwear and clothes suitable for the weather. Note there are no toilets on site. Bring morning tea.
