Fungi

KRM Branch Meeting June 2023

The June meeting was a members’ night with a fungi theme. Daniel Heald was the first presenter, and he showed a series of images of various fungi sighted during the recent weekend invertebrate survey at the Field Station on Cooleenup Island in Yunderup.

The fungi shown included: a White Slime Mould, a Violet Skin Fungus, Earth Balls, a Woody Layered Bracket Fungus and a Lavender Polypore. Also shown was a white-gilled Amanita sp., a Bolete, plus a Bolete that was being attacked by a Bolete attacking fungus, a Yellow Jelly Fungus (Tremella group), some Ghost Fungi, Mycena sp., Southern Oyster Mushrooms and Scotsman’s Beard (Calocera guepinioides).

Colin Prickett then showed a large selection of fungus photographs taken locally that would represent the range of species expected on the upcoming field visit to Paganoni Reserve. These included various Gymnopilus sp. (especially Gymnopilus allintopus or Golden Wood), Mycena sp. (especially Mycena clarkeana – Clarke’s Pixie Caps), Amanita sp. and Slime Moulds, Jelly Fungi, Boletes and Inkcaps.

Chris Punter finished the evening’s presentations with photographs showing rock formations he had seen at Mt Ridley, north of Esperance.
