KRM Branch September Meeting
The format for our September meeting was a Members’ night, which saw three presenters show photos.
First up was Bob Goodale, who showed a series of his recent photos. The first were taken at Goodale Sanctuary and showed some of the orchids that have been in flower, including some with unusual colour variations such as white Cowslip Orchids and hybridised Cowslips. There were also some bird photographs including a beautiful photo of a Yellowbill Spoonbill in flight near the lake on Goodale Sanctuary. He also showed some bird photographs taken during recent camping trips. On one trip to Rosalie and Geoff Barritt’s property at Cue he was able to photograph the Crested Bell Bird, a species that is usually very shy and hard to approach. On another trip to a gnamma hole north east of Wubin he photographed Red-capped Robins which were common around the camp site. Lastly he showed some stunning shots of Splendid Fairy Wrens and White-breasted Robins that frequent the gardens at Patricia Negus’ Gallery near Witchcliffe, south of Margaret River.
The next presenter was Daniel Heald who showed photos of some of the invertebrate species and fungi found during an invertebrate survey at Alison Baird Reserve. These included photographs of small beetles, a large Copper Cockroach, the Redcoat Bladderwort, a slime mould (Trichia affinis) and Icicle Fairy Fans.
The final presenter was Colin Prickett who showed photographs of recent sightings. These included images of orchids found on a trip out to Boyagin Rock and also locally at Paganoni Reserve. There were also some photos of an Australian Hobby catching dragonflies at Lake McLarty, a Western Wattlebird at the Spectacles and a couple of interesting spiders.
