This is a well written and extremely cohesive book that well illustrates all of our Odonata in one book, allowing an easy to read and comprehend book. This makes identification of even the hardest damselflies, so much easier.

The book contains very high-quality photos and highly detailed illustrations of Australian Odonata, with illustrations showing close-ups of body parts of Odonata, including head, thorax, wings and legs. Further, it also includes good illustrations of those often very hard to identify larvae.

Also included is a good amount of information on life cycle, ecology and habitat of Odonata. This includes delving into which family or species can be found therein. Finding them in the wild is thus far easier, meaning you spend less time searching for them and more time photographing them in the wild. The book has a useful identification key, further allowing the reader to readily and easily identify Odonata.

Lots of work that has been done on Odonata since 2006, when the first edition of this book was published, with this edition having far more and current information on the ecology of the species. In short, this book is a cohesive and extremely useful book which deserves a place in any entomologist or naturalist’s bookshelf.
