Memorial to Alex Saar Unveiled

Memorial Plaque unveiling ceremony for Alex Saar Naturalist

The Northern Suburbs Branch used the occasion of its annual January Barbecue and Social event to unveil a memorial to life member, Alex Saar, who passed away in March 2019.

Alex joined the Club’s Young Nats in the early-mid 1950s and after graduating to adult membership in 1959, remained a dedicated and active member of the Club up to the time of his death.

Club President, Jolanda Keeble and Branch Chairperson, Don Poynton, unveiled a small plaque attached to a shelf containing Alex’s bound copies of the WA Naturalist, in the Henderson Environment Centre’s library. A fitting location as, in addition to serving on the Executive Council (1962-63), Alex acted as the Club’s Joint Librarian for three years in the early 1970s.

The plaque appropriately included the inscription: Naturalist, Teacher and Friend. His Legacy is Our Knowledge.
