Further Funding for the Greater Brixton Street Wetlands
In December 2024, the state government provided a further funding allocation of AU$1.5 million to the Greater Brixton Street Wetlands to employ an officer to work with community groups, oversee weed control and restoration, and improve knowledge about the site.
Darling Range Branch visited the friends of the Brixton Street Wetlands group in mid-2024. These wetlands are a biodiversity hotspot that abuts several major infrastructure developments and is one of the most significant wetlands on the Swan Coastal Plain. In addition to being recognised as a Bush Forever site, much of the area is recognised as a Class A reserve. It is home to several threatened ecological communities and more than 650 plant species, including three critically endangered.
