KRMB July General Meeting 19th July 2013

The format of the July meeting was a Members’ night. The first presenter was Colin Prickett and his theme was Fungi. Colin told the meeting that just because it is winter we should not put our cameras and macro lenses into hibernation, as there are lots of wonderful fungi to photograph.

Colin then delivered a slideshow of fungi photographs taken over the past few years, mainly in Paganoni Reserve and at Goodale Sanctuary. Both of these locations are excellent places to find a wide variety and beautiful specimens of fungi. Photographs showed Magpie Fungus, Golden Wood and Clarke’s Pixie Caps (large clusters on paperbarks in Paganoni Reserve).

Several photographs showed the wonderful specimens of Ghost Fungus found at Goodale Sanctuary during field trips in 2012 and 2013. There were also some photographs of less common fungi such as the Red Fingers and Black Cup, both found at Goodale Sanctuary. The presentation closed with a few photographs of a few varieties of Coral Fungus.

The second presenter was Rosalie Barritt who showed photographs taken during our recent visit to Goodale Sanctuary. Photographs of Fungi featured heavily, especially the Ghost Fungus, Black Cup and Golden Wood. Rosalie’s photographs also showed the Autumn Leek Orchid and Hibbertia vaginata.

As Rosalie braved the cold and camped out on the Saturday night she was also able to photograph the resident Brush Tailed Possums and Southern Brown Bandicoots, that visit Bob’s pergola after dusk and her presentation included several close ups. The audience thanked Colin and Rosalie for sharing their excellent photographs.
