Following the two large volumes of Australian Land shells, this guide introduces Australian Land snails. It is not a field guide to species but covers more general subject areas.

The first five chapters of this book trace the discovery and identification of Australia’s land snail fauna. It includes insights on land snail form, function and behaviour. Ecology is also given attention in chapter 4. Chapter 6, on Australian native land snail families, provides a solid introduction to the families of snails found in Australia. The family names are not in alphabetical order, so one has to read or thumb through the whole chapter to find any particular family name. Chapter 7 deals with introduced snail species and reveals a significant number of introduced snails to Australia. Most appear on the loose in the Eastern States, but at least seven introduced species are crawling around in the Perth region and beyond. Chapter 8 provides a view of the primary regions in Australia for the distribution of native land snails. It is richly illustrated with live snail photos.

Overall, this book is richly illustrated throughout, well presented and is an excellent first introduction to Native Australian Landsnails.
