July Member’s Night—KRMB Meeting Report

At our July meeting we had two presenters. The first was Chris Punter, who showed some photographs taken during the recent (May) camp stay at Cue (see report in the August newsletter.) There were a few photos of the areas visited during the stay, including two showing KRMB members on a trip out to an area known as the ‘town water supply’, one other of Lake Mallan and several taken at an area of breakaway country. The area’s bird life was well represented, with photos of Mulga Parrots, Crested Pigeon, Budgerigars, Tree Martins, a Western Bowerbird and a Common Bronzewing Pigeon. Other photos showed a Wolf Spider, a large ant nest, a Bobtail Skink, a Fence Skink and a Parakeelya (Calandrinia sp.).

Goldern Wood – Gymnopilus allantopus

The next presenter was Colin Prickett, who started off with photos of fungi taken during the past month. They were taken at a number of locations, including Goodale Sanctuary, Cypress Farm and Paganoni Reserve, and showed a range of species, including Golden Wood, Clarke’s Pixie Caps, Southern Oyster Mushroom, Grey Powdery Amanita, Fleshy Cup Fungus and Ghost Fungus. This was followed by some photos of early orchids, including Brown-veined Shell Orchids (Pterostylis aspera), Dark-banded Greenhood (Pterostylis sanguinea), Blue Beard Orchid (Pheladenia deformis) and Autumn Leek (Prasophyllum parvifolium). Next were a series of early flowering plants, including Pepper and Salt (Philotheca spicata), Silky-leaved Blood Flower (Calothamnus sanguineus), Common Hovea (Hovea trisperma), Snake Vine (Hemiandra pungens) and Lomandra nigricans.

Horsfeld’s Bronze Cuckoo

A few bird photos went up, including Scarlet Robin, Golden Whistler and a Horsfield’s Bronze Cuckoo. Colin finished his presentation with some photos of spiders plus a Lesser Wanderer Butterfly.
